Psychological Wellbeing Practitioners

Psychological Wellbeing Practitioners (PWPs) are specially trained to help you better understand your problems and learn how to control your symptoms. They can also signpost to other services who can support you.

PWPs provide guided self-help techniques which are based on Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) principles. This can be provided in a range of ways:

One-to-one treatment.

You can work with a PWP face to face or over the telephone, and they can provide 6 – 8 sessions of guided self-help. These sessions can help you understand your symptoms, identify what is keeping your problems going and learn how to break the cycle using self-help techniques. A PWP will introduce self-help materials and resources and help you make positive changes to the way you think and behave.

SilverCloud

PWPs can also support you in the use of our computerised CBT programme; SilverCloud. This programme offers personalised modules to help people experiencing a wide range of problems, including depression, social anxiety, health anxiety, generalised anxiety disorder and obsessive compulsive disorder (OCD). Once registered, you can complete modules chosen by your own supporting PWP at your own pace, where and when it suits you. You’ll have access to a variety of tools that help you with setting goals, problem solving and other practical life skills, and your PWP will support you with regular reviews via email.

Stress Pac

Stress Pac is a 6 week course which provides you with tools and techniques to help you to understand and manage your stress, anxiety and depression.

You will learn techniques such as relaxation, activity planning, challenging negative thoughts, managing panic attacks and reducing avoidance. This can help by improving your ability to manage your stress levels and improve confidence. Stress Pac is delivered by PWPs, through lecture-style presentations. Stress Pac is not group therapy; you will not be asked to share your experiences or to speak in front of others, just sit back, listen, and put your new skills into practice at home.

You will be provided with booklets to allow you to practice the taught techniques when it suits you. You are welcome to bring someone with you if this makes you feel more comfortable, just let us know when you book on!

You can attend this as part of a course of therapy, while you are waiting for therapy to begin, or as a stand-alone option. You do not need an assessment to access Stress Pac.

Mental Wellbeing Workshops

Throughout the year we run regular two-hour workshops for a variety of different difficulties. These are one-off sessions run by PWP’s, where you are provided with techniques and materials to develop skills to better manage your mood. Within these sessions, you have the opportunity to participate in discussions if you wish, though this is not essential, you are welcome to just listen if you prefer.

You can attend these as part of a course of therapy, while you are waiting for therapy to begin, or as a stand-alone option. You do not need an assessment to access workshops.
