Counselling and Couples Therapy

Counselling

Counselling is a talking therapy which can help you understand and manage yourself and any problems you may be experiencing. Our counsellors are trained to build trusting, respectful relationships, offering a safe place to allow you to talk freely and openly and explore ways to move forward.  Counselling often involves talking about difficult or painful feelings and, and as you begin to face them, you may feel worse in some ways. The counsellor is there to support you and respect your views. Additionally, you must be willing to take responsibility for your own life in the belief that only you can make the changes you need. Counselling is confidential however there are limits to confidentiality which will be explained in your first session.

The counselling process requires a strong relationship between you and your counsellor and a degree of effort on your part. Sessions typically last for fifty minutes and it is expected that you attend regularly to make the best use of therapy. The counselling we offer is time limited the number of sessions you will receive shall be discussed at your first session.

Our counsellors are professionally qualified and adhere to the BACP (British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy) code of ethics.

Couples Therapy for Depression (CTfD)

We also offer Couples Therapy for Depression to our service users. Couples Therapy for Depression is an integrative, behaviour-based treatment of up to 20 sessions and is designed to treat depression in couples where there is also relationship distress. This type of therapy helps people suffering from depression by using the relationship as a resource to help support the individual and their partner.

Everyone’s therapy will be a bit different our aim is to help you and your partner explore and understand more about your difficulties, and then find solutions to them. Working together with a couples therapist, you will talk about the issues that trouble you and your partner. Together, you will explore new ways to relate to each other, gaining a greater understanding of your own and your partner’s feelings, and learning communication and problem-solving skills if needed.

Couples therapists know that depression can affect how people behave as well as how they feel, and they help couples to regain previous strengths as well as develop new ones. Sessions typically last for fifty minutes and it’s expected that you attend regularly to make the best use of therapy.
